FLOWER CARE

how to keep blooms lookin’ fresh

Every flower we sell is harvested at it’s unique peak time to look lovely at your event.

Some varieties of flowers will last longer than others, and this is completely normal. Just like all living things, flowers need some love and attention…once they leave our farm and are in your care, it is up to you to keep them happy. Below we will share our best tips for keeping your flowers looking beautiful!

Tip 1: TRANSPORTATION

It is always best to keep flowers in AC and in water when transporting them to your home or any other location. If you are driving less then an hour flowers will be okay without water but any longer time water is absolutely essential. If you know you are buying lots of flowers from us and traveling we suggest bringing your own buckets although we have buckets to borrow as well. Always keep flowers protected and secure in a vehicle to prevent buckets from tipping over and never put buckets in the back of a truck bed.

Tip 2: WATER

Clean, fresh water is essential to the life of your blooms. Put flowers into a clean water in a sanitized vase and change the water completely every 2-3 days. When your flowers can be composted we suggest rinsing out the vase with warm water and soap to prevent bacteria build up.

Tip 3: RECUTTING STEMS

After transportation, always recut the flower stems at least an inch with sharp, clean scissors. Cutting stems at an angle can be beneficial for the drinking ability. Remove any foliage off of flower stems that may be submerged in water to keep water clean .Recut stems with every complete water change.

Tip 4: FLOWER FOOD

We always have free flower food available at the farm to take home with you to add to your water. If you forget to grab flower food there are household ingredients you can use that may promote the life of your flowers such as sugar + white vinegar.

Tip 5: LOCATION

Do not keep flowers in direct sunlight, without AC, or near fruits or vegetables ( chemicals released from rotting food matter can negatively affect the flowers)

DIY BUCKET/ FARMER’S CHOICE FLOWER CARE:

When buying flowers in bulk, we suggest picking up flowers from our farm as close as possible to the time of when flowers are needed. All of our flowers have a 24 hour guarantee, but most can look beautiful up to a week with diligent, proper care.

  • When storing flowers overnight keep out of wind in a dark, air conditioned room. Any place that is cool and doesn’t get very bright light will work.

  • If you choose to pick up a boutonnière or flower crown the day before an event they require very diligent care as they completely out of water. Store overnight in a fridge but make sure there is no fresh, exposed food as that will cause flowers to die faster. Flower crowns and boutonnières can be put on plates with a damp paper towel and misting regularly helps with longevity as flowers can take in water through their petals.

  • Arrange flowers in AC when possible and never leave stems out of water for too long. Always follow the above tips (recutting, fresh water, etc.) when arranging flowers.

  • The day of your event- remember to put bouquets in water in between photos, ceremonies, etc. We offer cylinder vases as an add on charge.

  • Always make sure flowers have adequate water in vessels and all stems are submerged in water.
